It is the big day, the big reception and the big party.  You want to keep your friends and family on their feet and dancing.  Here are a few tips to help get the grove on.

Do Your Homework

If possible, see the band live.  that is always the best option.  Tapes, are all fine and maybe that is one only option you have.  Tapes are staged and are recorded and recorded again until the band gets it right. But will they get it right on your big day?  It is important to see how the singers interact with the audience (namely your guests.  Are they shy, are they out in the middle of the dance floor encouraging your guests to dance?  Are they helping create a truly festive mood?  Sometimes it is hard to get out to see the band live , but if you don’t … what you see on the video tape might not be what you get.

Don’t Be Afraid To Hire Local

You would be surprised … some of your favorite club also do weddings…. and do them well.  Some local bands specialize in local weddings (usually within a 50 mile radius of their “home base”).  Local bands will be more flexible, work harder and cost less than the full time wedding bands that travel state to state looking for a big pay day.  some of these bands off a mix of older more seasoned professional musicians mixed with younger very talented and energetic performers.  The combination is a perfect mix for a successful and fun event.

Contract For Extra Time

A typical wedding band contract is for 4 hours and that includes 3 sets.  If you think you your reception might go longer, contract the band for an extra set in advance.  This way you will be saving money and the band will be prepared to play music for another 45 or minutes.
